Crypto Portfolio Tracker
Getting useful information out of a portfolio tracker
What this tracker does
You record what you hold and what you paid, and the tracker applies live prices to show current value, cost basis and the difference between them. Entries are manual: we do not ask for exchange API keys or wallet access, so nothing here can move funds or read an account. Holdings are stored in your browser, and are additionally synced to your account when you are signed in so the same portfolio appears on another device.
Why cost basis matters more than total value
A balance tells you what something is worth; it does not tell you whether you are up or down. Two people holding the same amount of the same asset are in completely different positions depending on what they paid. Cost basis — the purchase price including fees — is also the figure most tax systems require to calculate a gain, and it is the field people most often fail to record at the time and cannot reconstruct later.
Watch your allocation, not just the total
Portfolios drift. Whichever holding rises fastest becomes the largest share without any decision being made, and people are consistently more concentrated than they believe. Looking at the split by asset periodically tells you whether the risk you are carrying is the risk you chose.
Record swaps as well as purchases
In most jurisdictions, swapping one cryptocurrency for another is a disposal of the first at market value, and taxable, even though no conventional money was involved. Traders who never withdrew to cash have still ended up with liabilities on gains that later evaporated. Record the date, the assets, the quantities and the value at the time, for every swap as well as every purchase.
